Virgin River enthusiasts are buzzing with eager predictions for the upcoming season seven, though some admit their speculations might just be high hopes.
Netflix’s beloved series showcases the life of nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge) who after facing a personal tragedy, moves to Virgin River seeking solace.
Fate has her falling for the charming Jack Sheridan, played by Martin Henderson, the town’s bar owner, embroiling her in his complicated life and introducing her to a cast of endearing yet troubled neighbours.
Key among them is Muriel St Claire, brought to life by Teryl Rothery, a former actress whose character suffers a heartbreaking diagnosis of cancer in the previous season.
As the tale unfolds, Muriel and the new doc in town, Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanimé), fan the flames of a budding romance that threatens to deepen, only for Cameron to leave in pursuit of closure with his former fiancée, reports the Daily Record.
With actor Ghanimé not returning as a mainstay in the seventh season, viewers still remain hopeful for an unexpected twist to bring him back into Muriel’s life.
A fan on Reddit recently mused, “Before any finale, I would love to see Dr. [Hayek] find out that he can’t have children and he will come back to Muriel,” igniting discussions about how Cameron’s potentially life-altering news could prompt a dramatic reassessment of his priorities and lead him back to care for Muriel in her time of need.
Viewers have been swooning over the fan-favourite couple, with many of them rooting for their on-screen romance in the comments.
One enthusiastic fan replied: “I know it’s highly unlikely, but I’d love to see Cameron come back to be with Muriel too. Loved your theory about how he’d return!”
Echoing the sentiment, another admirer posted: “Where can I file a petition for Muriel and Cameron to get together?
“Rewatching VR and I loved Muriel and Cameron’s relationship, can they get back together ASAP please? Thank you.”
In response, someone chimed in: “Yes, please!!! That would be wonderful… they’re already have a theme music, totally an endgame!! They need to be reunited again.”
The same hopeful fan speculated: “Maybe he’ll do a guest appearance at the end of the next season and returns in season 8 (if we have a season 8)…
“My heart can dream, right?! LOL. But seriously, I still can’t get over them. They’re so wonderful together.”
While Cameron’s significant presence in season seven seems doubtful, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith hasn’t shut down the possibility of his return.
Speaking to Deadline, he said: “Cameron will always be part of our world, and I would love to see his character come back again.”
He clarified, however: “[But] he unfortunately won’t be a series regular in season seven.”
As fans eagerly await news, Netflix remains tight-lipped about a potential eighth season of Virgin River, leaving viewers clinging to hope for more of Cameron and Muriel’s charming storyline.
