With a hat trick from Halle Duchene and a 33-save shutout from Tarynn Sutter, the Saskatoon Stars punched their ticket to the Esso Cup, after defeating the Eastman Selects 6-0 in the final game of their best-of-three series on April 6.

Maggie Freeman, Kolbee Ashe and Reese Dyky had the other goals for the Stars.

The Esso Cup, U18 national women’s club championship, will run April 20-26 in Lloydminster. Saskatoon will open the event against the still-to-be determined Ontario representative.

Fort Knox claims PJHL title

A 4-0 victory over the Saskatoon Westleys on Thursday night sealed Fort Knox’s claim to the Prairie Junior Hockey League title, with a 4-2 best-of-seven series win.

Jackson Miller stopped all 27 of the shots he faced in the game for Fort Knox to record the shutout, while Castor Berezuik had two goals and Madden Wallis and Trae DeDecker both had one.

Now Fort Knox moves on to the Keystone Cup Western Canadian Junior B Cup.

Melfort Mustangs advance to SJHL final

With a 3-1 win on Wednesday night, the Melfort Mustangs swept the Yorkton Terriers in their best-of-seven Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semifinal and will now move onto the championship series.

In that game, Zac Somers, Nicholas Andrusiak and Reilly Kotai all scored to help propel the Mustangs to victory.

Meanwhile, the Flin Flon Bombers stayed alive on Saturday night as Keefe Gruener scored twice to lead the team to a 6-1 defeat of the Weyburn Red Wings, who lead the series 3-2.

Those two teams will meet again for game six on Monday, with game seven scheduled for April 16 if needed.
