Mathew Lillard has teased ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ will be “a little more action-packed”.

The 55-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as the sinister William Afton in the upcoming movie – which is based on the horror video game franchise of the same name by developer Scott Cawthon – and has now teased ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ may have “more jump scares” and feature more action than its 2023 predecessor.

When ComingSoon.net asked Lillard whether the flick would be bigger than the original, he said: “I do think that the movie learned first time around, I think Scott, as a primary storyteller, listened to the audience. [It’s] what he does best. He knows that community so well.

“And I think that he’s responded with a script that … maybe it has more jump scares. Maybe it’s a little more action-packed. I don’t know. I’m not here to say ‘yes it is’, or ‘no it’s not’.

“But I do think the fans are gonna love this next movie, and I think that they’re gonna be really excited come December.”

The ‘Scream’ star added “the storytelling’s been amped up a lot” on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’, even though the flick is “still sort of an independent little horror movie”.

He explained: “I think the storytelling’s been amped up a lot. I don’t feel like the budget’s gone through the roof. There are $250 million, $300 million movies out there, $500 million movies.

“I mean, God knows what ‘Avengers’ cost, but we are certainly not that. We’re still sort of an independent little horror movie.”

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ – which was directed by Emma Tammi and starred Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail and Lillard – follows Mike Schmidt as he gets roped into working as a security guard at the long-abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, only for him to discover the old animatronics come to life at night – and have violent intentions.

Hutcherson previously teased ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ would be “much bigger” and “scarier” than the first film.

In an interview with Esquire, ‘The Hunger Games’ star said: “There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way.

“We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded.

“That’s something that I really think that we all fought for in the first film, because this world that was created in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’, it’s so out-there. It’s so over-the-top and wacky, in a way, that to find the emotional truth of the characters was gonna be what was gonna work.”

Hutcherson added fans of the game series would “flip for it” because director Emma Tammi was going to have “a lot of fun” with the source material.

He said: “I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”
